Yankees Star Shares Heartwarming Message After Playoff Exit

The New York Yankees’ 2026 season ended abruptly when the Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep in the American League Division Series.

After falling 1-0 and 5-2 on the road, the Yankees lost Game 3 at Yankee Stadium by a 4-3 score, with a contested fan-interference ruling on an Anthony Volpe drive contributing to the final outcome.

The defeat closed another chapter without a championship, and one of the team’s key relievers was already sidelined long before the series began.

Fernando Cruz, the 36-year-old right-hander who had become a reliable high-leverage option in the Yankees bullpen, missed the postseason after being diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

He was transferred to the 60-day injured list in late September.

An examination by Dr. Keith Meister led to a recommendation for conservative, non-surgical management, leaving open the possibility that surgery could still be avoided during the offseason.

In 61 appearances before the injury, Cruz posted a 4-6 record with a 3.13 ERA, continuing the solid work he had provided since joining the club from the Cincinnati Reds.

On Thursday, Cruz shared a reflective message on Instagram.

He wrote, translated to English: “1 Corinthians 2:9 Things that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have they entered into the heart of man, They are the things God has prepared for those who love him.

“My Dad always has the final word and He already spoke. We are on our way to make something historic. The truth always prevails. 1 Corinthians 2:9 Things that the eye did not see, nor hear heard, Nor have they risen in the heart of a man, They are the ones that God has prepared for those who love him.”

For a pitcher whose path included years of minor-league work before establishing himself as a late-inning arm, the message frames the current recovery period as part of a larger process rather than an endpoint.

As the Yankees begin their offseason planning, Cruz’s status will be one of several variables that shape how the bullpen is constructed for 2027, while he focuses on the path back to the mound.

Hopefully, the fiery reliever is able to return healthy for the spring.
