Yankees Suffer Fourth Straight Loss

After getting swept by the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend, the New York Yankees continued their road trip at Camden Yards against the Baltimore Orioles. Hoping to get back into the win column, the Yankees wasted a gem by Ryan Weathers, falling 3-2 and dropping their fourth game in a row.

At the onset of Monday's opener, things looked promising for New York with Ben Rice snapping his 0-for-13 stretch by hitting a two-run home run in the top of the third inning, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

That home run at the time seemed more than enough for Weathers, as he was flirting with a no-hitter all the way into the seventh inning after retiring the first 13 batters of the night.

But once the bottom of the seventh inning rolled on, the Yankees' lefty allowed his first hit of the night to Adley Rutschman. And after retiring Pete Alonso, Weathers issued his third walk of the evening to Tyler O'Neill, ending his outing. Manager Aaron Boone then opted to bring in fellow left-hander Brent Headrick out of the bullpen. The move ultimately backfired as Coby Mayo promptly slugged a three-run homer to spoil the shutout for the Yankees. That was all the Orioles needed as they sent the Bronx Bombers to their fourth consecutive loss.

Weathers ended up taking a no-decision in what was one of his best outings as a Yankee. He struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings pitched while allowing just that one hit with three walks and two earned runs.

The Yankees are in their first real rut of the season as losers of four straight. Three out of their last four losses have also been one-run defeats, with their two previous losses against the aforementioned Brewers coming in walk-off fashion.

The Yankees still find themselves two games back of the surprising Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East at 26-16. They will look to end their four-game slide on Tuesday with Will Warren on the hill for them.
