For the first time since he suffered a gruesome leg injury in May 2025, the New York Yankees have their switch-hitting, super utilityman back in the major leagues.
According to YES Network analyst Jack Curry, Oswaldo Cabrera has been recalled to the major leagues. Cabrera's last MLB appearance came on May 12, 2025.
He left that game after suffering a fractured ankle on a slide into home plate. He missed the remainder of the 2025 season and had been with Triple-A Scranton for the entire 2026 season.

This hit also extends his hitting streak to 6 games

Cabrera was recalled Wednesday after New York placed third baseman Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injured list with an ear/throat infection.
According to Curry, McMahon's injury will be backdated to Sunday, and he is expected to be ready for a return as soon as the 10-day requirement is up.
New York now has two super utility players in Cabrera and Jose Caballero. Cabrera's scorching hot stretch at Triple-A (.397 avg in June) will likely earn the switch-hitter playing time.
He's crushed left-handing pitching at Triple-A this season to the tune of an .385 average and .965 OPS. It would appear that frequent starts against left-handed pitching would be Cabrera's most likely path to playing time for the Yankees.
