It's been a long haul this season already for the Baltimore Orioles , but Yennier Cano delivered in a clutch situation on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels.
Cano came on in the home half of the eighth inning in relief of Baltimore starter Tomoyuki Sogano. With one out, the Angels' Jo Adell and Jorge Soler reached base and Zach Neto entered the batter's box. Cano needed to find an extra gear in his pitching arsenal to shut down the Angels' threat.
Good thing he had his sinker working. In a 13-pitch at-bat battle, Cano came out victorious. That trusty sinker coaxed Neto to take his best swing at it, but he missed.

The key strikeout helped Baltimore secure a 4-1 victory over the Angels, ending the Orioles' five-game losing streak.
“He’s a tough at-bat,” Cano said of that key at-bat, according to MLB.com. “He was protecting the plate, but he was also trying to get a good hit, maybe even a home run. He has a good swing, he’s probably one of the best I’ve faced so far this season. But it was a good thing I was able to come back from three balls to strike him out.”
As for breaking the losing streak, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde probably let out a big sigh of relief. The season has been filled with injuries to the Baltimore pitching staff. Key players counted on to deliver for the Orioles just have not come through as expected.
Maybe the West Coast visit to Los Angeles is a tonic that the club needed right now.
“Things have not gone our way this year,” Hyde said. “Any way right now -- we played really good baseball tonight. … I thought we took good at-bats. We didn’t score a ton of runs, but I thought our at-bats were really competitive. I thought our guys were really into it, and you could hear that. It’s been a grind for all of us, players included, staff and everybody. We want to play better baseball, so to kind of hold on the way we did … that was huge.”
The Orioles wrapped up their weekend series against the Angels on Sunday afternoon.
