Young duo's gloves make history for Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Sal Frelick and second baseman Brice Turang earned their first Rawlings Gold Glove Awards Sunday night, etching their names into franchise history.

At just 24 years old each, Frelick and Turang are now the youngest players to win a Gold Glove in Brewers history. They also become just the second duo in the franchise to win in the same year, joining outfielder Sixto Lezcano and first baseman Cecil Cooper who accomplished the feat in 1979.

Turang becomes the first, second baseman in franchise history to win a Gold Glove. He is also just the second middle infielder in Brewers history to take home a Gold Glove, following Hall of Fame shortstop Robin Yount who won the award in 1982. Turang's high-caliber defense was highlighted by an 82% success rate on defensive plays - the highest among all second basemen and the second-highest among all major league infielders. His flashy glove and quick transition ability were a huge reason he earned the hardware.

Frelick solidified his place in the franchise as the second right fielder to win a Gold Glove, joining Lezcano. Frelick's defensive metrics show, as he recorded seven outs above average, the highest total among all right fielders in the majors. His range and speed solidified his status on both Milwaukee's roster and their history.

Both players have now positioned themselves in contention for the Platinum Glove, an award that recognizes the best defensive player in each league — an honor that has never been won by a Brewer.
