Darren Till has become the leading man for Misfits Boxing in 2025.
In his third bout this year, Till knocked out Luke Rockhold in devastating fashion to become the promotion’s inaugural bridgerweight champion.
‘The Gorilla’ originally made his name inside the UFC Octagon, where he is a former welterweight title challenger.
He has often spoken about planning to return to the promotion at some point down the line after they parted ways early in 2023.
While Till recently offered an update on his UFC career in an interview with Bloody Elbow, there are several factors that point to why the path he’s currently on is the best fit for him.
Darren Till spoke after his win on Friday night about being frustrated by some of his biggest potential opponents not wanting to fight him.
While this may be an even bigger issue after his knockout win, if the Brit is able to get one of several stars to sign on the dotted line, it would result in a huge fight.
Till has spoken about facing the likes of Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, and while getting the chance to redeem himself in the UFC is clearly a big source of motivation for the 32-year-old, boxing is highly likely to produce bigger financial rewards.
The prospect of those matchups would go away if he were to re-sign with the UFC, where he’d likely need to put some big wins together before competing at the highest level again.
After Till beat Kelvin Gastelum in his middleweight debut, he instantly inserted himself into the title picture.
A close decision loss to Robert Whittaker was all that denied him from a shot at the middleweight gold but this became much further away following his consecutive defeats.
If Till was going to have success as a top UFC middleweight, this era seemed like a good time to do it considering the landscape of the division.
His injuries certainly played a part in his decline, but that’s not to say a healthier version of him would be able to climb all the way back to the top.
The middleweight division is in the best place that it has been for a long time, with four viable contenders all campaigning for the next title shot.
None of them are particularly great matchups for someone like Till, not to mention the fact that the current champion, Khamzat Chimaev, is a good friend of his who doesn’t look like he’s leaving the top spot anytime soon.
We’ve already considered two main points of why Darren Till should stick to boxing rather than working his way towards a UFC return.
There’s bigger fights for him in boxing and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be able to climb back to where he once was as a title contender.
The other key aspect to factor in is that ‘The Gorilla’ appears to be the perfect fit for this particular boxing scene for several different reasons.
For a start, Till was always a striking specialist competing in MMA, meaning that he seems far more suited to boxing than some of his fellow ex-UFC stars.
He’s also always had natural star qualities that bring a lot of attention to whatever he’s doing, whether he’s delivering wicked knockouts or talking trash with his opponents.
Till needed Misfits Boxing to get his career back on track and put some wind in his sails.
In 2025, we’ve found out that the promotion might need him just as much because he’s exactly what they want in a fighter.
