This past Saturday in the main event of UFC Vegas 104, we saw a middleweight rematch between two ranked contenders. Former title challenger Marvin Vettori (19-7-1) was fighting for the first time in nearly two years as he took on Roman Dolidze (15-3).
These two first fought back in 2023 with Vettori picking up the decision win. Following that win, Vettori lost to Jared Cannonier and we hadn’t seen him since. Vettori had been out and had been dealing with injuries. There were whispers that he still wasn’t 100% on Saturday night. With that, it felt like Dolidze had a lot more momentum on Saturday night.
Throughout the fight, Dolidze just had much more volume than Vettori and that really told the story. Vettori did have a big moment in the third when he hurt Dolidze badly but he couldn’t finish the fight. Due to the volume and bigger shots throughout the other four rounds, Dolidze comfortably won a decision at UFC Vegas 104.
What’s next after UFC Vegas 104?
While it wasn’t the best performance, it was good for Vettori just getting back inside the octagon. He did have that big moment in the third round and I think that he just needs to get back to being active. The spark is back for Vettori and he posted that online as well as called out his next opponent.

Vettori has set his eyes on Brendan Allen and sometimes match making is incredibly easy. This is a layup for the UFC. The fight to make is Vettori against Allen. These two have had history outside the octagon including a brawl after a PFL event where Allen charged Vettori throwing punches. That can be seen below.

All signs point to Yankees moving on from Anthony Volpe
With the trade for Ryan McMahon now complete, it would seem New York Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman has fulfilled one of his three priorities. He can now cross third base off the list, which leaves the rotation and bullpen as his remaining priorities. However, according to one Yankees writer, Cashman might not be done with the infield. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported this after the McMahon trade: “The Yankees may not be done adding to their infield. A team source said the Yankees are interested in adding a right-handed hitter who could play the infield.” Kirschner adds that the Yankees have had interest in Willi Castro and Amed Rosario. But the question now is, how would another player fit into the Yankees’ infield? Needless to say, Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. aren’t going anywhere, and McMahon is just getting there. That leaves the low-hanging fruit. Anthony Volpe has been at the center of controversy all this season. His 13 errors, many of which had come at make-or-break moments, amount to the second-highest total in the game. In addition, his bat has not been able to compensate, hitting .214/.286/.407 with 14 home runs. There was always a lot to like about Volpe. He won a Gold Glove in his rookie year, his power has always been promising and his speed is nothing to scoff at. Unfortunately, his glove has become a liability, and his speed has also produced very few results. Volpe has swiped just 10 bags in 17 attempts. His power is the one thing that still has some upside, but it hasn’t been enough to justify a spot in the lineup. Both Castro and Rosario have been far more productive at the plate this season than Volpe. Kirschner doesn’t clarify how serious the Yankees are in their pursuit of another infielder, but that most likely isn’t available information. Having just turned 24, Volpe could still become the type of player that was expected from him as a top prospect. However, his recent performance has weighed heavily on his team’s efforts, and it may be buying him a ticket out of the Bronx — or at least a spot on the bench.
Lakers' Luka Doncic Going Viral for Shocking Body Transformation
The Los Angeles Lakers have been very invested in getting Luka Doncic into better shape this offseason. After how poorly he played defense and how tired he looked against Minnesota in the playoffs, it has been their top priority. Doncic has never been the most fit player in the league. He is still one of the best players in the league, but he could be a lot better if he were less tired at the end of the season. So far this offseason, it looks like Doncic has been committed to the training program that the Lakers put him on. He looks like an entirely different player. The Lakers would be thrilled if Doncic were able to stay this fit all year long. He needs to be able to play better defense now that he is the face of the franchise, and that could be abetted by improved lateral quickness. A big reason why the Lakers lost to the Timberwolves in the playoffs is because of their inability to stop guards from penetrating the paint. The starting backcourt is not a good defensive one. Doncic isn't the only one to blame for poor perimeter defense. Austin Reaves isn't the best defender, either. The difference with him is that he at least tries to be in the right spot on defense. At times against the Wolves, he was too tired to actually stay in front of some of the players who were attacking him. A large part of Minnesota's game plan was to get Doncic switched on to Anthony Edwards. Based on this video, he has a renewed commitment to doing that. Doncic likely has extra motivation to show the Dallas Mavericks what they decided to trade away. He wants to prove them wrong for deciding to get rid of him. After he was traded to the Lakers, Doncic averaged 28.2 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game. He shot 43.8 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. New report suggests Christian Wilkins release related to 'incident' with teammate
There may be more to Christian Wilkins’ recent surprise release from the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL reporter Josina Anderson reported Saturday that "some sources believe an incident involving a teammate may have factored in-part into the Raiders' fatigue and release" of Wilkins. The nature of the incident is not clear. However, many believe the Raiders had a very good reason to move on from Wilkins considering the money they had invested in him. It also suggests the Raiders saw no alternative if they went straight to a release. Wilkins was dumped by the Raiders just one year into a four-year, $110 million deal. The Raiders suggested Wilkins failed to take rehab seriously as he tries to work his way back from a foot injury. Other teams do not appear to have the same concerns about Wilkins as the Raiders did, and he should find a new landing spot fairly easily. That is one of the reasons some suspect there is more to the Raiders’ decision than they are publicly saying.
Brewers Reportedly Listening On Trade Offers For Veteran Starter
The Milwaukee Brewers aren't going to be categorized as sellers at this year's Trade Deadline, but they very well could trade from their big league roster. The starting rotation is an area of abundance for the Crew and it's always in high demand at this time of year. The Brewers have Nestor Cortes returning from the IL soon after missing the last four months almost with a flexor strain. Milwaukee's rotation is already filled with a mix of veterans (Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff, Jose Quintana) and high performing rookies (Quinn Priester, Jacob Misiorowski), leaving little room to find a spot for Cortes. A trade of a veteran starter may be the easiest solution to the problem and according to Bob Nightengale, that's exactly what the Brewers are open to. In Nightengale's Sunday notes column, he writes that the Brewers are starting to listen to trade offers for veteran Nestor Cortes. Cortes has made just two starts this season, the first one being a disaster in New York and the second one being much better, going six shutout. Still, we haven't seen Cortes pitch in a big league game since early April. It would be tough for the Brewers to rely on him for the stretch run and move out a piece that has been healthy and reliable the whole time. Granted, the potential return for a rental starter like Cortes that has pitched in just two big league games this year isn't going to be anything earth shattering. But if Cortes sticks around, it's going to create a difficult logjam to manage in the Brewers rotation. Jose Quintana has struggled a little bit of late and is another veteran that could potentially be on the block if the Brewers end up keeping Cortes around. It seems difficult to envision a scenario in which both Quintana and Cortes are in the Brewers starting rotation on August 1st. Given the report that the Brewers are listening on Cortes, it appears that Milwaukee has their preference on who they would want to keep. The Trade Deadline is coming up on Thursday afternoon at 6 PM ET.
