Despite producing a quick win, Alex Pereira didn’t come out his last fight unscathed.

After reclaiming the light heavyweight title at UFC 320, Alex Pereira confirmed that his foot is broken.

‘Poatan’ instantly knew that he’d suffered an injury when standing in the Octagon after beating Magomed Ankalaev in their rematch.

Pereira, who recently sent a message to Jon Jones, doesn’t plan on returning until his desired matchup with ‘Bones’ at the White House in 2026.

The Brazilian star recently admitted that he’s taken rehabilitation into his hands despite the UFC’s advice.

Alex Pereira says he’s ignored the UFC’s advice to keep his broken foot in a boot

Alex Pereira is certainly no stranger to overcoming significant injuries in his career.

Pereira could apparently ‘barely walk’ heading into his first fight with Magomed Ankalaev where he lost the title via unanimous decision earlier this year.

Fortunately for ‘Poatan’, he’s in no rush to compete again, having admitted to making mistakes in the past when not completely dedicating himself to his preparations.

Pereira does have several targets in his sights, but his training camp won’t become serious for some time.

The light heavyweight champion recently provided an update on his injury status in an interview with MMA Hoje.

When Pereira was asked about his foot, he admitted that he has already gone back on the UFC’s advice of how he should recover from the injury.

“The UFC doctors told me to wear the boot for another six weeks,” Pereira said before revealing that he’s already taken it off. “They told me to wear it for another six weeks but also I don’t know. I got some more opinions.

“On one hand it’s good, but on the other hand, I could atrophy my foot a bit more, make it harder to move, to move around and so on. The pain is okay now. After the impact, for a few days, a week, I was fine with the boot. I didn’t take it off for anything, just to shower.

“I think it worked right and now it’s fine. Walking is fine. If I kick, obviously it’s going to hurt. It has to take a while and all that, but I think it’s on the right track.”

Alex Pereira commented on the UFC 321 controversy

In the same interview, Alex Pereira shared his thoughts on what went down at UFC 321 this past weekend.

Some have shown support for Tom Aspinall, while others have criticized him after the heavyweight champion couldn’t continue due to eye pokes.

‘Poatan’ took the incredibly well-measured stance of not judging the Brit because he doesn’t know what he was feeling in that moment.

“Some people are saying he was faking it. Man, honestly, you can’t say that… It’s hard to understand. One poke seemed to go deeper in the eye, and he didn’t complain about it, but he grabbed the other one from the outside. But we don’t know the impact there either, you know?”
