Now that Alex Pereira has reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title, it has not taken long for fighters to start calling him out.
UFC 320 took place in Las Vegas this past Saturday, with the main event featuring a championship rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Pereira.
‘Poatan’ made some key changes from their first meeting earlier this year and managed to stop Ankalaev inside the opening round, regaining his belt in convincing fashion.
Now holding the title once again, the Brazilian star is back at the centre of attention in the division, with no shortage of contenders eager to take a shot at him.
Right after Pereira’s win, UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev congratulated him, but also mentioned their unfinished business needed to be addressed.
There have been rumours before about a possible fight between the two, and things heated up when Chimaev mocked ‘Poatan’ over his knockout loss to Israel Adesanya.
Pereira even suggested a bet that he would not be taken down by Chimaev, which only added more interest to the potential matchup.
But after Chimaev’s callout, Pereira responded by saying he was not interested in that fight.
“Thanks for congratulating me but all I want is a super fight, I wanna fight at heavyweight but all I can say is thank you,” he said.
After his victory, the 38-year-old shared that he had planned a lengthy callout for Jon Jones. However, following the tragic death of Jones’ brother Arthur, he decided instead to pay tribute with a moment of silence.
Should Pereira successfully move up to heavyweight and secure a title, he would make history as the first fighter in UFC history to hold belts in three distinct divisions.
However, Dana White has been reluctant to let him make that move just yet. There are many contenders at light heavyweight still waiting for their chance.
Carlos Ulberg recently extended his win streak to nine fights, and both Pereira and Ankalaev pointed him out as the likely next challenger before UFC 320 took place.
