Alex Pereira has already carved out an impressive career in the UFC, but now he is looking for a legacy-defining challenge that would put him in a league of his own.

Pereira is currently enjoying his second stint as light-heavyweight champion, and he has also held the middleweight belt. With his career entering its final stages, he is considering a move to heavyweight for one last shot at history.

If ‘Poatan’ decides to step up to heavyweight, there are two matchups that stand out to him. The first is a blockbuster fight against Jon Jones, who holds legendary status as a two-weight champion. The other option is a shot at the title, which would currently mean facing Tom Aspinall.

Alex Pereira reveals intentions to move up to heavyweight

Pereira spoke to Omelete during the Comic Con Experience in Brazil, where he was asked about his future and what he wants to do next. He said he has two main things he would like to do in 2026.

“I spoke about my interest, right? I want to fight at heavyweight, but I don’t know… I mentioned the White House against Jon Jones.

“And I’ve even spoken about a possible fight at heavyweight for a third belt. But I don’t know, it’s not in my control. I’m also just waiting, like everyone else.”

How do both Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall feel about a potential fight with Alex Pereira?

Jones and Aspinall are currently in very different situations. At one point, they seemed destined to face each other in a title unification bout, but now that fight feels further away than ever.

Aspinall is dealing with a serious eye injury sustained during his October bout against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321. In his latest update, he mentioned that he is still unable to train and has not even started thinking about when he might return to the octagon.

Jones, on the other hand, has been vocal about wanting to return since announcing his comeback for the UFC White House event. He has been calling on Dana White to make it happen, and a high-profile bout against Pereira could be the perfect opportunity.
