Amanda Nunes has officially made her back into the UFC anti-doping pool. Nunes retired from the competition in 2023.
With Nunes reentering the anti-doping pool, this could only mean that she plans on making a comeback to the UFC.
It is being reported by BoxingNews.com that Nunes has tested within the last week.
Under the current rules, retired fighters cannot compete for at least six months, they must continuously test before they are cleared.
Nunes may be able to officially comeback around December 2025 or the early part of 2026.
Her last appearance came at UFC 303, where she faced off with the current bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison. Nunes’ only loss in a 15-fight run came against Julianna Peña in 2021.
Apparently, Nunes feels that she has unfinished business to attend to.
Kayla Harrison has said she would wait the six months for Nunes. She is adamant about securing the fight.
Harrison said, “Obviously, Amanda’s next. We spoke to her at the Hall of Fame yesterday. She says Q4. But she’s not in the drug testing pool yet, so she might not be able to fight till Q1 of next year. I’m sure they’re talking to Ali and letting him know about everything. That’s why I pay him the big bucks—so I don’t have to think about stuff like that. I just show up, train, work hard, stay ready. Send a location, I’ll be ready.”
“But if she’s just getting back in the pool, it takes at least six months. Does that still…I mean, I said that I would waive that for a small fee,” Harrison stated
“I just want to fight again. I decided to come back for something that I really enjoy to be in. Honestly, that’s why I left for two years because I don’t want to be burned out. I got the rest that I need and everything. Why not come back? I’m not impressed. I think she did what she’s supposed to do. She saw she could beat Julianna, she saw the arm, and then she got the arm, and she beat Julianna. So I’m happy for her,” Nunes stated.
