Anderson Silva revealed he was offered to compete on the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano May 16 card, but turned down the offer to focus on becoming a police officer.

Silva, now 50, explained that he is currently in the process of studying and training for a role in law enforcement. Silva admitted that at this stage of his life, the grueling nature of MMA training is no longer appealing. While he has closed the door on professional MMA, Silva noted he still trains Jiu-Jitsu daily and boxes twice a week to stay in shape. His last combat sports fight was a stoppage win over Tyron Woodley in their boxing match on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua card last December. Silva confirmed that once he finishes his law enforcement certification, he is open to “one or two more fights,” but strictly in professional boxing.

“Nakisa [Bidarian] invited me to come to fight MMA or kickboxing. But because I’m in this process now [of becoming a police officer] to study, to keep my mind work on the one thing, I just say, ‘Oh, I can’t this time.’ But when I finish the whole thing, probably I have one or two more fights, only boxing. I’m not have a mind anymore to train in MMA, it’s just too hard for me to [come] back to train MMA. Of course, I train jiu jitsu every day. I train in boxing two days a week. But MMA no, not anymore,” Silva said

Silva’s Record

Now that he is not in MMA, Silva wants to see the current crop of fighters break his record. Silva has the record for 16 consecutive UFC wins, something which Islam Makhachev matched in November. That is when Islam moved up from lightweight to welterweight and dethroned the champion Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 in a unanimous decision win last December. The victory made Islam a two-weight world champion. Makhachev will have the chance to break the record in his next fight. Silva wants to see him do it.

“Everything is possible. I’m happy because somebody broke this record, and the new generation in the future, the people will break this record again, again, again – this is good challenge for everybody when it comes. “But I don’t think the people think about, ‘Oh, I go break this record, I go break this record.’ I think the people doing their job and when you see, ‘Oh, my God! Really? Yes, you broke the record! Oh, OK. Great,” Silva revealed
