UFC light heavyweight contender Bogdan Guskov floored one of the division’s seasoned vets at UFC Abu Dhabi.
Light heavyweights Bogdan Guskov and Nikita Krylov looked to continue their ascents in the division with an emphatic showing at UFC Abu Dhabi. As UFC light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev prepares to face Alex Pereira in a title rematch at UFC 320, Guskov and Krylov looked to secure a potential title eliminator bout with a win.
Facing an opponent with nearly twice his experience, Guskov proved to be the more dangerous threat in the Octagon once the fight began.
Guskov kept the grappling ace Krylov upright for as long as their fight lasted at UFC Abu Dhabi. Guskov found early success with his kickboxing, landing several brutal leg kicks in the opening minutes.
As the clock ticked towards the final minute of Round 1, Guskov caught Krylov with a straight-right that flattened his opponent. Guskov failed to let Krylov regain his composure, following up the right hand with several brutal ground-and-pound shots before the referee waved off the fight.

Guskov returned to the win column and extends his ongoing four-fight winning streak, featuring a most-recent submission of Billy Elekana at UFC 311. It was a bizarre win for Guskov in January as he arguably submitted Elekana twice before the fight was eventually waved off.
Before UFC 311, Guskov earned recent finishes of Zac Pauga and Ryan Spann to bounce back after a first-round defeat to former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.
Online, Guskov is known by many fans for his likeness to recently retired light heavyweight Anthony Smith. Despite Guskov and Smith looking alike, and after Guskov’s numerous attempts to square off with Smith in the Octagon, the fight never came to fruition.
Smith opted to hang up the gloves following a TKO loss to Mingyang Zhang at UFC Kansas City earlier this year. He earned wins against the likes of Rashad Evans, Shogun Rua, and Hector Lombard during his UFC tenure.
Meanwhile, Guskov will likely face another seasoned name in the light heavyweight division for his next fight. A matchup with former title challenger Dominick Reyes could make sense for Guskov’s return to the Octagon.
