Arman Tsarukyan Vs. Dan Hooker – How Does It Play Out?

A main event between Arman Tsarukyan and Dan Hooker is reportedly being planned for an event in Qatar on November 22, as we look at how the fight could play out.

The fight is critical for both men, who recently suffered injuries. Tsarukyan has not had a UFC fight since his UFC 300 win victory over Charles Oliveira. Arman pulled out of his bout in January due to a back injury, as he missed out on the lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev. Arman is undefeated in his last four fights, knowing a title shot could be on the line if he wins.

Meanwhile, Hooker defeated Mateusz Gamrot in his previous fight at UFC 305 last year. Hooker has been out of action due to a hand injury, which required surgery, that prevented him from fighting Justin Gaethje at UFC 313. However, Hooker is in impressive form, with three wins on the spin.

The Approach

For Arman, the path to victory lies in his grappling. His primary objective will be to close the distance, get inside Hooker’s reach, and secure takedowns. Once on the ground, Tsarukyan is a master of top control and ground-and-pound, which he used to great effect in his recent wins over Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush. Tsarukyan will likely look to follow a similar blueprint against Hooker.

Hooker’s best chance at victory comes from keeping the fight on the feet. With a significant height and reach advantage, “The Hangman” will need to use his long kicks and crisp jab to keep Tsarukyan on the outside. He has shown an improved ability to defend takedowns, most notably in his fight against Mateusz Gamrot. If Hooker can keep the fight standing, his high-volume striking and knockout power will be a major threat to Tsarukyan.

Both fighters are coming back from injuries (Tsarukyan’s back, Hooker’s hand), and the extent of their recovery will be a major factor. However, if Tsarukyan can remain disciplined and stick to his wrestling-heavy game plan, he will be tough to beat.
