Brazilian UFC welterweight contender Carlos Prates recently opened up about his unusual sleep routine. During a recent interview, Prates admitted that getting a full night’s sleep has never really been part of his lifestyle, even while preparing for the toughest fights. What makes it all the more surprising is the fact that UFC fighters, like other athletes, generally prefer long nights of sleep for better recovery.

Prates, who recently won against JDM, doesn’t sleep much and yet performs incredibly in the Octagon. “Bro, I cannot sleep too much, normal days I sleep like 4 hours,” Prates said. “I go sleep at like 11 or midnight, and 1:30 am I wake up and stay awake all night. Then I go sleep like 6:30 am until 8:30/9 am, then I go to the gym.”

The 31-year-old has been one of the most prominent names in the UFC over the past year. It is his sheer knockout power and sharp striking that separate him from the rest of the roster. Still, the revelation about his sleeping habits surprised many. Despite the unconventional routine, Prates continues to find success inside the Octagon.

Why Carlos Prates is Pressure-Free Inside the Octagon?

Even in important fights, Carlos Prates admits feeling little to no pressure. This was evident during his last bout against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth. A short while back, he addressed this topic and admitted that life wasn’t easy for the Brazilian MMA fighter. Compared to what he has gone through over the years, the pressure of UFC is still manageable.

“I lived for 6 years in Thailand without money, without a sponsor. I fought with my hand broken, I fought sick. Fought in really bad situations for little money just to pay my bills. I’m doing what I love.”

Fighting through multiple injuries and without the guarantee of a good paycheck, Prates still kept fighting. Slowly and steadily, he made his way to title shot contention. He currently aims to fight the winner of Ian Garry vs. Islam Makhachev to win the Welterweight title.
