The Bloody Elbow experts are mostly in agreement on the fighter who will walk out of UFC Perth as the main event winner.
The headline fight pits Carlos Ulberg against Dominick Reyes in a clash at the top of the Light Heavyweight division.
Not since Reyes’ controversial defeat to Jon Jones has he been this close to the top of the division, and a win over Ulberg could propel him towards a future title fight.
However, Ulberg is 12-1 in his career, having not lost in more than four years and looking for a ninth consecutive victory in the octagon.
It should be a close fight, but the Bloody Elbow staff has made their predictions about who will win the UFC Perth main event and how they will do it.
Kyle Dimond: The resurgence of Dominick Reyes has been one of the most fun things in the light heavyweight division, but there’s a good chance it ends in Perth.
Reyes is a better striker than a lot of the contenders, but I think Carlos Ulberg is an exception to that. I’m expecting a decision win where his cleaner work gets him the nod.
PREDICTION: CARLOS ULBERG TO WIN VIA DECISION
Ross Markey: I’m going with Carlos Ulberg to continue his run this weekend ‘Down Under’. His win over Jan Blachowicz left a little to be desired in most fans’ eyes, but I think he’s got enough about him to really make a charge at light heavyweight still.
Dominick Reyes is in the midst of a career resurgence as of late, but I think that comes to a crashing halt in Perth.
PREDICTION: CARLOS ULBERG TO WIN
Jordan Ellis: I’m backing the redemption story at UFC Perth. Dominick Reyes has done amazingly well to get himself back into the title mix after four straight KO losses.
‘The Dominator’ has shown a ruthless finishing ability that Carlos Ulberg has lacked of late.
PREDICTION: DOMINICK REYES TO WIN VIA KNOCKOUT
Harvey Leonard: Since losing out in a wild firefight in his UFC debut, Carlos Ulberg has shown a newfound patience and technicality on the feet that make him a difficult man to beat.
Dominick Reyes has been on a resurgence as of late, but his run has not come against elite strikers or hungry up-and-comers on a winning run. Faced with both at UFC Perth, I expect Reyes to run into another setback. Ulberg via decision.
PREDICTION: CARLOS ULBERG TO WIN VIA DECISION
Hamish Woodward: Carlos Ulberg has been unbeatable since a debut loss in the UFC, and there appear to be no signs of that changing at UFC Perth.
Reyes bounced back well from four losses in a row, which began with his controversial loss to Jon Jones, but all that showed is that he is very beatable at this level.
Ulberg is at the level of the top Light Heavyweights and should beat Reyes, albeit in an unspectacular fashion.
