Charles Oliveira warned Conor McGregor could ruin UFC White House plan with wildcard fight

Brazilian star Charles Oliveira may have his immediate plans post-UFC Rio scuppered already.

Turning in a spectacular victory to extend his undefeated run in his native Brazil, former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira made light work of his short-notice foe.

Becoming the first to finish Mateusz Gamrot in the Polish star’s entire combat sports career, Oliveira turned in a second-round face crank submission win over the ex-KSW megastar.

And issuing a post-fight callout for a rematch against Max Holloway, Oliveira has staked his claim for a shot at the symbolic BMF championship.

Charles Oliveira warned about Conor McGregor’s UFC return

Tied to a potential summer return at the incoming UFC White House event, Oliveira has been warned he may be beaten to the proverbial punch.

As far as former lightweight star Josh Thomson is concerned, Oliveira is risking a fight with Holloway — with Conor McGregor gunning for his own comeback in Washington, as well as his own history with the Hawaiian star.

“Charles asked for that fight. Max is going to be unavailable until 2026. I think Charles won’t fight again until 2026,” Thomson said on the Weighing-In podcast. “I think Charles Oliveira vs Max Holloway [is] another great fight — unless there’s gonna be a Max Holloway vs Conor McGregor at the White House.

“Then we just take a step back, and we let Max Holloway do his thing against Conor McGregor for the BMF title at the White House.”

Charles Oliveira hopes to share Brazil card with Alex Pereira

A massive fan-favorite in his native Brazil, Oliveira was swarmed with fans upon his spectacular win against Gamrot over the weekend.

And hoping to turn that momentum into another hometown event, Oliveira encouraged the UFC to pursue a massive stadium event in South America — on a card he plans to share with light heavyweight kingpin Alex Pereira.

“In a stadium. You can put me as the main event; I’m totally sure we can fill it. I’m the biggest name in the UFC today in Brazil,” Oliveira said after UFC Rio.

“Can you imagine doing a card with Charles Oliveira and ‘Poatan’? That’d be huge, so if you wanna make history. I think that Brazilian people deserve it. We deserve it, not a small Fight Night but a huge event.”
