Former UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev is pushing for an immediate rematch with Sean Strickland rather than move weight classes, per MMA Mania.
The 32-year-old Chechen lost his title to Strickland atop the UFC 328 card in Newark earlier this year and now wants another crack at the division belt. "What are we waiting for?" Chimaev said in his message directed at UFC president Dana White, according to the report.
Strickland is reportedly recovering from a serious shoulder injury and may not be cleared to compete until the end of the year. The 35-year-old champion has not fought since capturing the middleweight strap from Chimaev in May.
While he waits, Chimaev will return to the wrestling mat for Real American Freestyle on Sept. 5 in Moscow against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. He last competed for RAF in June, pinning Dillon Danis in St. Louis.
Woodley is set to make his RAF debut this weekend in Cleveland against UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley at RAF 12 before facing Chimaev next month.
