Khamzat Chimaev says Sean Strickland should accept a rematch if he wants to make real money.
The Chechen contender, who still believes he should be UFC middleweight champion, told ESPN that Strickland needs to step up if he is serious about cashing in. Chimaev has been vocal about wanting another crack at the 185-pound title picture after controversies surrounding prior matchmaking decisions.
Strickland has not committed to fighting Chimaev again despite the latter's insistence that the pairing makes sense financially. The former champion has been selective about his next opponent since losing the belt.
Chimaev maintains he deserved better treatment from UFC matchmakers in recent title discussions. The Chechen has not fought since his win over Robert Whittaker last year, though health issues reportedly kept him sidelined for stretches.
No official date or venue has been announced for a potential Chimaev-Strickland rematch. Strickland's camp has not publicly responded to the challenge.
