Chuck Liddell Reveals Why Jon Jones Didn’t Want Fighters Knowing His Real Reach

Chuck Liddell has been out of the spotlight long enough that when he says something, people tend to listen. What he said about Jon Jones recently was worth paying attention to. While the former two-division champion’s career is a bit controversial, now Liddle added another claim, suggesting ‘Bones’ hid his real measurements.

The Ice Man made a claim that cuts straight to the heart of how Jones operated during his championship years, that Jones deliberately kept his real reach measurements under wraps so opponents could not properly prepare for how long he actually was. Not a rounding error. Not a measurement inconsistency. A deliberate choice was made to control the information available to anyone building a game plan against him.

“I think I matched up well with Jon Jones. I always thought I would have. He’s got a longer reach than people think. Jon did that on purpose, he didn’t want people to know I was that long. He didn’t want to train for me being long,” Liddle said on Full Send podcast.

Jones built his entire early career on using every physical tool available to him in ways opponents struggled to anticipate. The oblique kick, the unorthodox clinch work, the angles that did not fit neatly into conventional striking patterns, these were all extensions of a fighter who thought about competitive advantage in dimensions most people did not consider.

Whether Liddell has hard evidence to back the claim, or whether this is a theory that hardened in his mind over years of watching Jones compete from the outside, is something only he can answer. Meanwhile, Jones has enough going on publicly right now, including the White House card collapse, the contract dispute with the UFC, and the release request still unanswered.

After being left off the UFC White House card, Jon Jones publicly addressed the situation and asked to be released from the UFC. Jones claimed he and his team were actively negotiating to fight on the card but felt the UFC offered him a lowball deal. The former heavyweight champ also responded to comments from Dana White, saying the situation was misrepresented. In a recent post on X, ‘Bones’ wrote:

“Especially when as recently as Friday UFC was calling me trying to get me on that White House card for a much lower number. If the UFC truly feels like I’m done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today. No more spins, no more games. Thank you to the real fans who know what’s up. Bones out.”

The 38-year-old also admitted he’s dealing with hip arthritis, but insisted it doesn’t stop him from fighting. He even revealed that he recently underwent stem cell treatment and was preparing to start training camp for the event. White hasn’t responded to Jones’ recent tweets yet, so fans wonder what actually happened.
