Conor McGregor is reportedly set to step back into the Octagon next year.
The former UFC champion has not competed since suffering a broken leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier back in July 2021.
Since then, McGregor has hinted at various returns to both MMA and boxing, but has yet to make good on any of those plans.
McGregor says he will return at the UFC White House event scheduled for June 2026. Michael Chandler appears to be the leading candidate, but nothing has been confirmed and other offers are still coming in.
McGregor’s only professional boxing match ended in a knockout loss to Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.
Even so, the 37-year-old still views himself as the top striker in MMA, even among some of the sport’s most skilled punchers.
He did not shy away from saying so during a meeting with UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan in 2023.
He claimed to be “the best boxer in the UFC,” stating this with a laugh as he embraced Yan.
The President of the International Boxing Association, Umar Kremlev, has since given him a chance to prove that claim.
“Let’s make the best main event of 2026,” he published on X.
“IBA is ready to organize this fight – all we need is your agreement.
“Waiting for your confirmation @petr_yan @thenotoriousmma.”

McGregor has stated his intention to take on Islam Makhachev in a UFC title fight, aiming to make it another high-stakes chapter in his comeback.
Speaking to Bloody Elbow’s Donagh Corby, he said: “I’m motivated. I’m self-motivated, and I for sure want a crack at that belt. I for sure want a crack at that 170lb belt to go for the triple crown.”
Regarding Makhachev, he added: “It would be a good fight, a good scrap. Southpaw vs southpaw.”
“It was a good performance out of him [against Jack Della Maddalena] and fair play to him.
“So, yeah, I’m excited for it. Let’s see what happens. Let’s get back in the mix.”
