Conor McGregor has once again made his feelings known about a return to the Octagon, this time making it clear he wants to be part of a specific UFC event in 2026.

McGregor hasn’t fought since 2021 when a broken leg cut short his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. Since then, Poirier has retired, and McGregor’s own comeback attempts haven’t gained much traction.

Outside the cage, his activities have continued to grab headlines, while a failed return against Michael Chandler in 2024 only added to doubts about whether the first-ever simultaneous two-division UFC champion would fight again.

But talk of another run for McGregor started up again earlier this year when Donald Trump announced plans for an event at the White House. Dana White later backed up that claim and said preparations were underway.

Conor McGregor’s White House UFC return moves closer as he takes charge of event

McGregor was quick to latch on to the White House idea, and hasn’t wavered in his push for a spot on the card.

Speaking to Adam Glyn, McGregor – who has been increasingly vocal about a potential political career – said his appearance at the White House event is “definitely” going ahead.

“I am ecstatic! The Mac is back,” said McGregor. “What better event than to grace the White House lawn for a straightener, what I do best. I am very, very excited, very eager, very motivated; bring it on, baby!”

“I am very happy that it’s June,” he added. “It was July, now it’s a month earlier. Even better! Bring it to April, why not? Let’s celebrate my birthday early.

“That’s a definite (fighting at the White House). For sure. That is my event, for sure.”

Dana White backs Conor McGregor over Jon Jones for White House event

Conor McGregor has had steady backing from Dana White in his pursuit of a fight at the White House, but the same can’t be said for Jon Jones.

Jon Jones has also shown interest in being part of the event, but White has made it clear he doesn’t trust Jones to follow through, pointing to his history of unpredictability.

Speaking on Wade Plemons’ YouTube channel, White reinforced his position, stating that McGregor is far more reliable than Jones when it comes to commitments like this.

“(Jones) is the greatest of all time, I still know that to be a fact,” White said. “But he’s not the greatest of all time ‘guy you can count on that you know 100 percent is going to be solid and be there’. “Say what you want about Conor McGregor because people like to talk s— about that too, but he is that guy. He’s always been that guy. “There are a lot of guys who talk tough publicly but behind the scenes it’s a whole other ball game. When the s— hits the fan, who’s really willing to go out there? Conor McGregor has always been that guy.”
