Conor McGregor shares heartfelt 9/11 tribute

Tragedy struck America 25 years ago, and Conor McGregor has shared his heartfelt tribute to 9/11 victims.

The Irish MMA star released a short tribute to one of the most memorable days in human history. McGregor recalled his memories of watching the Twin Towers fall as a young teenager in Dublin, sharing his true respect for the victims and everyone hurt by the tragic scenes on September 11, 2001. The emotional events touched McGregor, who recently sat down with Robert J. O’Neill to discuss the disaster.

O’Neill is best known for his claim of firing the fatal shots that killed Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. O’Neill served in the US Navy from 1996 to 2012, having a fruitful 16-year career in the military. Sitting down with O’Neill, an emotional McGregor paid homage to those affected by the traumatic events 25 years ago.

“Today marks 25 years since the day that changed the world forever. I’m not one for long messages on here, but this one means something. Spent today with Rob [Robert J. O’Neill, former US Navy SEAL], and it hit me deeply.”

“I remember watching those towers fall. The shock. The Anger. The heartbreak. The feeling that the world had changed forever. Then years later, hearing that SEAL Team 6 had taken down Osama bin Laden. Justice had finally come.”

Conor McGregor utilized the sit-down to transition from a traditional mixed martial arts focus to explore the world O’Neill has lived in. The conversations spurred the UFC ace to share some thoughts about 9/11, the sickening event of September 11, and all it impacted, leaving him emotional.

McGregor continued:

“Sitting with Rob today, hearing about the brothers, the missions, the things these men saw and carried home with them, you realize people only ever see the warrior. They don’t see the pain. They don’t see the demons. They don’t see what a man carries home after the mission is over. That is sacrifice.”
