NASCAR legend Gary Myers dies at 76

Legendary NASCAR racer Gary Myers has died at the age of 76, his family shared on social media late Friday. So far, no cause of death has been announced.

According to his son, Burt Myers, Gary died on Thursday night.

"Last night I lost my hero," Burt stated in a post on Facebook. "He fought so hard but was so tired. My daddy is in Heaven and can finally do the things he wanted to do the last several years."

He added, "Thank God for the times we had. He taught me everything I know. Selfishly I want him here but I know he is much better off now. I miss him so much."

Gary Myers was a multi-generation NASCAR racer

"Our Bowman Gray family is saddened by the loss of Gary Myers," the Bowman Gray Stadium stated on X. "Gary earned 38 wins at Bowman Gray in Modified competition, in a career that also saw him make starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and Grand National Series. Our thoughts are with his wife Pam, sons Burt and Jason, grandson Slate, and the entire Myers family."

Gary was a NASCAR driver for five years. According to Fox 8, he's the "second generation of four generations of racers in the Myers family."

"He is the son of NASCAR driver Billy Myers and his uncle is Bobby Myers; both are two of the early legends of Bowman Gray Stadium," Fox 8 adds. "His cousin, Danny 'Chocolate' Myers, is a longtime NASCAR staffer and personality."
