Movlid Khaybulaev has been banned from MMA for one year after failing a drug test.

The 2025 PFL featherweight champion submitted an in-competition sample that tested positive for recombinant erythropoietin on August 1, the day of his $500,000 title win over Jesus Pinedo, whom he submitted in round five.

In an official statement, PFL announced that Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s stablemate has been stripped of his championship and will be forced to forfeit all associated bonus awards.

That wasn’t enough for the man Movlid Khaybulaev beat by split decision when they fought in 2021.

Brendan Loughnane issues a statement

Movlid Khaybulaev edged out Brendan Loughnane when they met in the PFL featherweight semi-final.

Conor McGregor’s sparring partner went on to win the $1 million tournament one year later.

Still, he’s furious that Khaybulaev’s cheating may have harmed his record and bank balance.

This fight literally cost me millions of dollars,” Loughnane tweeted on Wednesday.

“Lost a split decision to a known cheater. Sport is wild.”

Conor McGregor hasn’t publicly commented on Khaybulaev’s failed drug test and subsequent ban.

‘However, the Irishman did take a dig at Khabib Nurmagomedov by reposting a fan theory.

It suggested the 29-0 UFC legend must’ve known that Khaybulaev was using performance-enhancing substances.

Conor McGregor wants to revisit Khabib Nurmagomedov rivalry

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in 2020 without granting Conor McGregor the rematch he craved.

Five years later, the former dual-weight champion is eyeing a fight with one of his Russian teammates.

McGregor declared his plan to fight Islam Makhachev during a recent interview with Bloody Elbow’s Donagh Corby.

“I’m motivated,” he said while pouring pints for patrons at his Dublin pub, The Black Forge Inn. “I’m self-motivated, and I for sure want a crack at that belt. I for sure want a crack at that 170-pound belt to go for the triple crown.”

“It would be a good fight, a good scrap. Southpaw vs southpaw.”

The 37-year-old couldn’t resist a sly dig at Nurmagomedov, who famously retired having never moved up in weight despite many issues making the 155lb limit.

“It was a good performance out of him and fair play to him,” McGregor noted in a rare compliment, before taking a swipe at Nurmagomedov by adding that Makhachev “had the courage to do it, to go up.”

“So yeah, I’m excited for it. Let’s see what happens. Let’s get back in the mix.”
