Dana White bursts bubble of Jon Jones’ ‘GOAT’ fight with Alex Pereira; Stipe Miocic is still the contender

The predominant notion that Jon Jones will take on Stipe Miocic after recovery has generated tidal waves. Fans, pundits, and peers (substitute for an unlucky Tom Aspinall ) all know of this. Yet ‘Bones’ engaged in hypotheticals on X since last Thursday, pondering what a fight with Alex Pereira would feel like. Bossman Dana White confirmed that Jones was just teasing matchups.

Speaking to the media scrum in his post-UFC St. Louis presser, Dana White weighed in on UFC on ESPN 56 wins. The CEO also revealed that UFC 303, live From T-Mobile Arena, has already surpassed a new record in gate sales. With PPV king Conor McGregor returning, it has already topped the $20 million mark. After talking about McGregor’s return, White shifted his focus to another returning superstar – Jon Jones.

Yeah, [on a Jones vs. Alex Pereira future fight] it’s Stipe. I think Jon’s just asking..., ‘Who do you like? What do you think?’ Kind of just feeling it out... seeing what people think. But he knows he’s fighting Stipe... Dana White at the UFC on ESPN 56 post-fight press conference

Light-heavyweight king Alex Pereira, 10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC, KO’ed  Jamahal Hill during his UFC 300 featured headliner. After his win, he mentioned wanting to rise to 265 during his octagon interview. ‘Poatan’ and Jon Jones have passively flirted with the idea that a super fight between them would be one for ages.

The heavyweight champion’s justifications for snubbing Aspinall revolve around the recognition of fighting pronounced names like Stipe Miocic and even Pereira. The Brit and Pereira, with his Brazilian fanbase, are possibly one and the same. However, Alex Pereira’s desire to be the first three-division champ changes matters. He’s also widely getting more popular by the day. Nevertheless, White sternly says no; not the only matter he said no to recently.

Dana White praises Joaquin Buckley’s win at UFC on ESPN 56 but rejects callout of Conor McGregor

Dana White had his hands full at the UFC on ESPN 56 post-fight conference. He had much to touch on: the winners and losers, a venue change, and even Jon Jones. White had to pitch in on the possibility of Jones facing Alex Pereira instead of Stipe Miocic. He also liked what he saw in the big winner, Joaquin Buckley , this weekend.

Buckley met Nursulton Ruziboev in the welterweight co-main event bout of UFC on ESPN 56. Ecstatic to fight and win in his hometown of St. Louis, Buckley (19-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) had the playing field. Hence, he called out McGregor, who debuts in a five-round welterweight headliner at UFC 303 (ESPN+).

A name doesn’t get bigger than McGregor; however, White didn’t support ‘New Mansa’ in making a callout to Conor McGregor in his post-fight octagon interview.

He asked for this fight. He fought a guy that was smashing people in the first round, and he went out there and took the fight to him, ...It was an incredible performance, and in his hometown...Buckley called for this, came out, and he delivered. That guy is going to be a rock star here now...[on him fighting Conor McGregor] Nuh-uh...[smirks sternly] Dana White at the UFC on ESPN 56 post-fight press conference

Buckley is on a four-win streak since dropping back down to welterweight. The former middleweight is in top form. Hence, like many others, he chose to shoot his shot, wanting to fight ‘The Notorious.’ However, the boss shut it down quickly with just a simple “Nuh-uh;” it seems that not everybody can shoot to the top of the ladder together.
