In a recent podcast, Cormier pointed out the potential disadvantages of Jones facing Tom Aspinall in the main event.

According to Cormier, facing Aspinall is a huge risk, especially if Jones loses to a UK star on Independence Day. He believes an American legend losing on such a symbolic occasion would not reflect well in front of the national audience. Additionally, the Hall of Famer accused Jones of manipulating fans’ excitement and repeatedly teasing a comeback with no certainty.

My issue, though, was why? So I’m thinking he was trolling. Kind of giving them a hard time because he knows how much they [UFC and fans] wanted him to fight Tom Aspinall. My biggest issue is, why are you playing with people’s emotions? It seemed like that’s something he’s been doing quite a bit lately….He said it’s good to be the hunter now and not the hunted. Don’t keep rolling around playing with our emotions and the fans’ emotions because you know they want to see you fight.
