UFC CEO Dana White has pledged to fully finance the medical treatment and rehabilitation for Maya Gebala, a young survivor of the tragic February 10 shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia.

The commitment was shared by Maya’s mother, Cia Edmonds, who revealed that White contacted the family personally. Maya was among 27 people wounded in the massacre, which resulted in eight fatalities and left the small Canadian community in mourning. Maya has spent over a month in critical condition at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, battling life-altering brain injuries sustained from gunshot wounds to her head and neck.

Once Maya is medically stable for transport, White has arranged to relocate her to a premier specialized facility in Los Angeles. Despite the severity of her wounds, Maya has recently shown encouraging signs of awareness, communicating with her family through simple gestures.

“Providing nothing serious happens between now and Monday. We may finally start looking towards a future for my girls … Stability and recovery. It feels as though the air got lighter, and Maya has some light in her eyes … hope just got a little more brighter,” Cia

“After a week of being in the ICU we were contacted by the president of the UFC, Dana White, he’d offered Maya full paid medical in one of the world’s most top tier hospitals in LA California. “For anyone who watches UFC, they put my babes name in the ring. Super cool. “The children’s hospital has an extensive brain trauma clinic and more resources. However, Maya hadn’t been stable enough to travel. Until now,” Cia said

“Parents always seek the best care for their children, but the resources in our urban centres is every bit as good at every level and equivalent to facilities in the U.S. and elsewhere,” Dr. Judy Illes
