Dana White's Power Slap League to be licensed athletic competition in Nevada

UFC boss Dana White has earned an outside-the-octagon victory as it pertains to people getting slapped in the face.

ESPN's Marc Raimondi reports that the Nevada State Athletic Commission voted on Tuesday to make slap fighting a licensed athletic endeavor, a decision that will have White's new Power Slap League regulated and overseen by the state's governing body.

UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell offered a presentation about the league to commissioners and then told ESPN the new competition will have rules regarding weight classes, medical requirements, and matchmaking similar to those seen in mixed martial arts organizations such as UFC and Bellator. The Power Slap League will also utilize the controversial 10-point must scoring system commonly used for boxing and MMA bouts.

As noted by SlapFight.com, the "rapidly growing sport" of slap fighting simply features two individuals standing across from each other throwing open slaps

"After testing it, it became clear to us that there's massive potential here as a sport, not unlike the early years of the UFC," Campbell explained. "It made all the sense in the world to go toward regulation before the sport's commencing, for all the obvious reasons -- No. 1, the health and safety of the competitors."

Along with White, former UFC owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta are part of the Power Slap League ownership group. Campbell said the organization wants to have a "major broadcast partner" by the end of 2022 but added there are no secured plans for a first official Power Slap League event at this time.
