Daniel Cormier urged his greatest rival not to follow in the footsteps of ‘The Notorious’ now that he has retired.

Jon Jones continued to speak about his retirement after the news was made official that he’d be vacating the UFC heavyweight title and ending his career.

Despite this decision, ‘Bones’ has recently been teasing a return following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a UFC event taking place at the White House in 2026.

Jones responded by stating that he’s back in the UFC’s testing pool, which would allow him to step back inside the Octagon for such an event.

The news also caught the attention of Conor McGregor, who Cormier tried to use as an example for what his former opponent shouldn’t do.

Daniel Cormier doesn’t want Jon Jones to copy Conor McGregor in making every big story about him

Both Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are such big personalities and important figures that they’re always going to be in the news to some degree.

During a recent episode of ESPN MMA’s ‘Good Guy / Bad Buy’, Daniel Cormier pleaded with ‘Bones’ to avoid copying ‘The Notorious’ in one specific area.

Jones and McGregor gather a lot of interest, especially when they’re talking about an upcoming fight or teasing a return.

‘DC’ asked for Jones, in response to his recent comments about the White House event, to refrain from making himself a part of the story whenever anything big happens in the sport of MMA.

Cormier doesn’t want to see Jones posting about fighting a certain opponent or coming back on a specific date after he made the decision to retire by himself.

“Jon Jones and I don’t see eye to eye in most instances and, boy, he’s been great for my YouTube here this last couple months. Him flopping all over the place has been great for my YouTube. But please don’t become what Conor has become in the media. Every time a big story breaks, Conor’s like, ‘I’m back,’ or ‘I’m doing this.’

“Don’t do that. Don’t try to make it about you when you voluntarily walked away from this. Conor didn’t voluntarily walk away. Conor got hurt, and he left. He just hasn’t come back. Jones voluntarily said ‘I’m done.’ So now that he’s done, don’t try to make these stories about you whenever you’re a guy that’s supposed to have walked away from the game.”

Daniel Cormier vented his frustrations regarding the complications surrounding his fights with Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones may have produced the greatest UFC rivalry of all time but their history also comes with a lot of controversy.

Following their first fight at UFC 182, they were set for a rematch in the main event of UFC 200 until ‘Bones’ was pulled

“My frustration is, why did it happen every time?… “That’s where my frustration comes. You know that I’m gonna work my a– off. If you aren’t confident that you can work at that level, you seek out help… And it’s not happening against the other guys, it’s happening when we fight every time and that sucks.”

Several days after he claimed that he has re-entered the testing pool, Jones wrote on X, “It feels nice to be the hunter and not the hunted for once.”
