Jose Aldo’s retirement tour continued on Saturday when he made an appearance at UFC Rio.

Earlier this year at UFC 315, Jose Aldo suffered his second loss in a row when he was beaten by Aiemann Zahabi, but the result was deemed a controversial one.

Following the loss, ‘The King of Rio’ emotionally announced his official retirement from the sport, marking the end of a legendary career.

Having already announced his retirement, Aldo didn’t get to compete on the recent UFC Rio event, but he did make an appearance in front of his home crowd.

Daniel Cormier tired of seeing Jose Aldo retire

Midway through the card, the 39-year-old’s iconic walkout song, ‘Run This Town’ began playing and the notoriously rowdy Brazilian crowd immediately knew what was happening.

The former UFC featherweight champion walked out to the cage with a pair of UFC gloves in his hands for what will be the final time.

He then emotionally placed the gloves in the center of the Octagon before sharing the moment with his family.

Despite being one of the greats of the sport, fellow UFC legend Daniel Cormier has shared his surprise reaction to Aldo’s ‘retirement tour’, claiming that he is done with seeing the Brazilian retire.

“Let me say this, as a massive fan of Jose Aldo Jr, that is me laying down a foundation of my love for Jose Aldo, I’m over it,” Cormier said on the recent episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy.

“I’m done with it. I’m done with it. At the Hall of Fame when he retired, I was emotional, I was emotional watching him, hearing his song and I was like this is so good, going into the Hall of Fame, the stress of all his career is done.

“He didn’t get out clean because no one does, but he got out in a way where his legacy is intact… Then he goes and fights again. And he walks out in Brazil, he comes out to ‘Run This Town’, it’s very emotional.

“Let me tell you something, I can’t get emotional for someone multiple times like that, over and over again, so I’m done with it. Jose, I just want you to be done, if you’re done, you’re done.

“If (the UFC) go to São Paulo and he does a retirement ceremony again where he goes and puts his gloves down, I’m throwing something at my TV,” he continued.

Is Jose Aldo the greatest featherweight of all time?

‘The King of Rio’ reigned over the featherweight division for several years following the integration of the WEC and he was unstoppable for almost a decade.

Despite that, following his loss to Conor McGregor in 2015, Aldo’s career took a turn and he struggled to regain any momentum after that.

And now with Alexander Volkanovski‘s continued success at 145lbs, many fans believe ‘The Great’ has overtaken Aldo as the greatest featherweight of all time.
