Dillon Danis accidentally disclosed that Nick Diaz was offered as his next opponent following the controversial Mike Perry withdrawal in August.
During RAF 14 media day ahead of his wrestling match with Arman Tsarukyan on Friday night, Danis was discussing previous contract negotiations when he let the information slip. He had been explaining a proposed deal with Nate Diaz that included a $250,000 withdrawal clause when he veered into unexpected territory.
"Nick Diaz was supposed to fight — I'm not even supposed to talk about this," Danis said, per MMA Mania. "Nick was agreeing to it, but he's a little — he's going through some stuff. Nick was supposed to be the fight after Mike Perry."
Danis had been scheduled to face Perry in an MMA bout at Duel Arena 1 but pulled out roughly 48 hours before the event after sustaining a severe arm laceration. Perry questioned the timing and suggested the withdrawal may have been deliberate, though Danis later released medical footage of the injury. Brandon Jenkins replaced Danis on one day's notice, which Perry said cut his purse in half.
The withdrawal also forced a postponement of the RAF wrestling match between Danis and Tsarukyan from early October to this Friday at Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The two sparked a brawl at Thursday's press conference after Danis wore a shirt mocking Khamzat Chimaev, Tsarukyan's training partner.
Danis claimed he could beat both Diaz brothers in one night. The RAF 14 main event goes down Friday, assuming both men make it to the cage without further incident.
