Fight fans are gearing up for one of the biggest matchups of the year that is set to take place in several weeks.

From the moment that the main event of UFC 319 was announced, wacky predictions came in for Dricus du Plessis’ next defense of the middleweight title.

It’s a fairly common belief amongst the combat sports world that if Khamzat Chimaev is going to leave Chicago with the 185 pound gold, he needs to finish the fight early.

Du Plessis may have recently changed some minds with a social media post, but his latest update ahead of August 16 has led to some fans doubling down on their thoughts.

Fans react to Dricus du Plessis being in remarkable shape ahead of UFC 319

Throughout his entire 25-fight pro career, Dricus du Plessis has only ever been to the scorecards on three occasions.

While he has emerged victorious in all three of those outcomes, there were many questions about his cardio in some of his early appearances inside the Octagon.

Du Plessis was able to put those doubts behind him in his two fights with Sean Strickland, where he maintained a steady pace for the full five rounds in both of their matchups.

On the other hand, there are still some concerns regarding Khamzat Chimaev’s sustainability based on his explosive grappling style and some of his previous fights that have gone past the opening round.

The defending champion’s recent Instagram post, in which he appears to be in remarkable physical shape ahead of UFC 319, had fans locking in their predictions on social media.

‘DDP by great shape.’

‘I just can’t see him being rag dolled even as good as Khamzat is. Hope to god we get this fight.’

‘Khamzat will be forever forgotten after the beating DDP puts on him.’

‘Once Khamzat fails to finish the fight within the first two rounds, it’s almost certain that DDP’s gonna beat him.’

‘Looking good. This is going to be a sick fight, I can’t wait!!’

‘Dricus is a tank.’

Top 5 UFC middleweight believes that Dricus du Plessis is harder to prepare for than Khamzat Chimaev

While Dricus du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev are both incredibly distinct personalities in MMA, the two elite middleweights also bring incredibly unique styles to the table.

Following his win over Robert Whittaker in Abu Dhabi, Reinier de Ridder gave his thoughts on what it would be like to prepare for both men.

‘The Dutch Knight’ claimed that he believes the champion would be more difficult to prepare for despite the dominant wrestling of the title challenger.

“Khamzat would be an easier fight to prepare for,” De Ridder said.

“He’s more of a typical style. I can bring a couple of Dagestanis and Chechens who wrestle pretty similar to Khamzat. It’s not as weird as Dricus is.”
