Lerryan Douglas fractured his orbital bone and lost vision in his left eye immediately after Jamall Emmers knocked him out in the first round at UFC Sacramento over the weekend.
Douglas' coach, former UFC featherweight Cub Swanson, confirmed the injury on social media Sunday. "Lerryan Douglas had a fractured orbital and instantly lost vision in that eye," Swanson wrote on X, per Sherdog. "He is OK and I'm glad he didn't take more damage. We'll know more after he sees a specialist this week."
Emmers entered the bout as a heavy underdog against Douglas, who had won six straight fights by finish before Saturday. The right hand landed flush on Douglas' left eye socket and dropped him, forcing referee Jason Herzog to wave off the contest. Douglas' eye swelled shut from the impact, and follow-up punches were barely necessary.
The Brazilian had scored three first-round finishes during his six-fight streak before the loss dropped his record to 14-6. Swanson said further details on the extent of the damage will emerge after Douglas visits a specialist later this week.
