One UFC White House fighter could have an all-star corner when he steps into the cage in Washington D.C. this June.
The event isn’t just about the fights inside the Octagon, with several high-profile names also expected to be part of the crowd, including VIPs and global dignitaries.
It remains to be seen who will net an invite to the highly anticipated event, but Drake recently received his courtesy of Aiemann Zahabi.
Aiemann Zahabi, ranked No. 6 at bantamweight, has a chance to claim his eighth consecutive win when he faces former champion Sean O’Malley on the White House lawn.
Zahabi enters the bout with momentum behind him, having recently extended his winning streak by beating an opponent he shares with ‘Suga,’ Marlon Vera, at UFC Vancouver last October.
The June 14th card presents a huge opportunity for Zahabi to make a statement and elevate his name in the sport. The 38-year-old wants to make the occasion even bigger with a special guest joining him for his walkout.
“I’m walking out with GSP [Georges St-Pierre] at the White House, but you know what would be even crazier? If Drake walked me out from the Oval Office singing ‘Started From the Bottom,’” Zahabi said during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“Drake, if you’re out there, I would love it if you could do that. I started from nothing—my parents immigrated here from a war-torn country, and I made it all the way to the White House.
Some fans felt O’Malley should have been matched up against Cory Sandhagen instead of Zahabi. Like them, Sandhagen has accused ‘Suga’ of choosing “low-risk” fights.
The promotion has also faced criticism, with some pointing to this booking as evidence that the UFC is looking to push O’Malley back into title contention. But none of that seems to bother Zahabi right now. He’s focusing on letting his performance do the talking when they meet in Washington D.C.
