It looks like Dustin Poirier will be staying retired.
Poirier called time on his career this past July, going out with one final banger inside the Octagon against fellow UFC fan favorite Max Holloway.
But it did not take long after Poirier retired at UFC 318 for talk of a bout outside the cage to arise. A couple of months on from the New Orleans pay-per-view, ‘The Diamond’ teased a return to fighting in the boxing realm.
Reigniting the feud sparked by their failed booking at UFC 230 in 2018, Poirier named Nate Diaz as the one fight he would return for. Unfortunately for those excited by the possibility of the two meeting in the ring, there appears to be nothing there.
Nate Diaz is two matches into his post-UFC career, having boxed both YouTuber-turned-pugilist Jake Paul and ex-Octagon opponent Jorge Masvidal.
Having gone 1-1 in the squared circle, losing to ‘The Problem Child’ but getting his revenge on ‘Gamebred’, the Stockton star currently does not have another fight on the horizon.
And it does not look like talk of a showdown with Poirier will change that.
While interacting with fans on social media, the former interim UFC lightweight champion responded to one question regarding discourse about a boxing match against Diaz.
“Crickets,” Poirier wrote, indicating that his fellow former UFC star is not pushing for the fight.

While there is clearly no discussion going on behind the scenes, Diaz did appear to respond to Poirier on social media.
When talk of the possible retirement-ending bout emerged for ‘The Diamond’, Diaz put out a post on X that seemed to be directed at his longtime rival.
“I’d beat your a– but you’re not allowed. PS you’re checked out already.”
