Dustin Poirier was among those watching on as Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki delivered the goods in UFC Vegas 108’s co-main event.
The main card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night at the Apex delivered in spades, especially in regard to the two lightweight scraps that set the stage for Tatsuro Taira’s submission victory in the main event.
After Esteban Ribovics got the better of Elves Brener in a Fight of the Year candidate, Chris Duncan and Mateusz Rebecki ensured they would not be outshone by putting on a bloody war that left the UFC handing out two Fight of the Night bonuses.
Duncan ultimately had his hand raised after leaving his Polish opponent almost unrecognizable following 15 minutes of action. The Scotsman trains alongside some top names at American Top Team, and one star in particular knows a thing or two about brutal battles inside the Octagon.
Poirier retired at UFC 318 after falling short in his trilogy against Max Holloway, bringing an end to his memorable 18-year tenure in MMA. During his latter years, ‘The Diamond’ spent time on the mats with Duncan, who was a leading figure in the preparation for his final UFC win over Benoit Saint-Denis in 2024.
With the pair’s friendship, it’s not surprising that ‘The Diamond’ paid close attention when ‘The Problem’ took to the Octagon at the Apex on August 2.
Like most, Poirier was entertained by the thrilling contest, and he took to X to praise both the victorious Duncan and defeated Rebecki for one of the best fights of 2025 to date.
“Bravo men!! What a WAR!! You both should be proud (salute) emoji,” Poirier wrote. “SILLYGOOSE @theproblem155”

While Duncan extended his winning run at Rebecki’s expense, Saturday’s event did see one of his streaks come to an end.
Before going the distance at UFC Vegas 108, the Scotsman had reeled off two straight victories by way of guillotine choke. Duncan credited Poirier for his UFC London submission this past March, and he even paid tribute to his teammate’s favorite move in a unique way.
Duncan’s second straight guillotine choke saw him immortalize a phrase born out of Poirier’s refusal to hold back his urges when it came to jumping on guillotine chokes during his career.
Poirier’s famous phrase was tattooed on Duncan following the result in England’s capital, “Don’t be silly, jump the gilly.”
With that, ‘The Problem’ will always enter the cage with a part of his teammate by his side, as he looks to carry the lightweight flag for American Top Team following Poirier’s retirement in July.
