Amanda Nunes is getting help from a notable source for her comeback.
Among the most intriguing storylines heading into the UFC’s first event of 2026 and the start of the promotion’s new era on Paramount+ will be the return of an all-time great.
Nunes is widely regarded as the women’s GWOAT after ruling as a two-division champion before her shock retirement in 2023. Many predicted that she would be back, and that will come to fruition just over two and a half years later.
In the co-main event of UFC 324, Nunes will challenge Kayla Harrison for the women’s bantamweight title. The Brazilian is looking to regain the 135-pound gold at the expense of her former American Top Team stablemate.
In her pursuit of doing so, ‘The Lioness’ has been getting help from someone who knows a thing or two about getting the better of Harrison…
The UFC 324 co-headliner will mark Nunes’ first fight since a comfortable five-round win over Irene Aldana in mid-2023. Given her layoff and the winning form of Harrison, many are expecting the American to spoil the legend’s plan to return to the throne.
Nunes is doing what she can to ensure that is not the case, including employing the help of the one and only woman to have defeated the reigning UFC bantamweight queen in MMA.
Larissa Pacheco beat Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, at the third time of trying. Following two decision losses, the Brazilian finally outpointed her longtime rival in 2022 to win the PFL lightweight tournament.
Nunes has brought Pacheco into her UFC 324 camp, as she seeks any advantage she can find for the January 24 showdown.
The former bantamweight and featherweight champ recently posted a photo of her ‘secret weapon’ for UFC 324, and fighters like Hector Lombard, Amanda Ribas, Poliana Botelho, Luana Pinheiro, and Abby Montes showed their support for the link-up with positive emojis in the comments section.
Having spent time in camp with Nunes, Pacheco has little doubt about how her fellow countrywoman’s return fight will play out on January 24.
The two-weight PFL season winner hinted that Nunes is coming back as strong as ever and predicted that she will exit T-Mobile Arena with the UFC bantamweight title back in her possession.
“She’s ready. In terms of adjustments, everything, there’s nothing more to say. I’m not going to talk strategy because I can’t, but she’s ready, man,” Pacheco told MMA Fighting.
“What I’ve felt from her… I can say this: I’ve felt Kayla’s energy before, and now I’ve felt Amanda’s. She’s ready.
“That fight is hers, without a doubt. She’s walking out with the win,” she added.
