Former UFC Champ Sean Strickland Suspended Indefinitely After Throwing Punches

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland was suspended indefinitely by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following an altercation with another fighter at an MMA event in Las Vegas in June. It is usual for the commission to temporarily ban an athlete or other personnel until official punishment is given at a disciplinary hearing. His case was scheduled to be heard on Wednesday, but it was pushed to a later date.

Strickland Suspended For Incident In Vegas

The incident happened at a Tuff-N-Uff event on June 29. He entered the cage after Miles Hunsinger, a fighter he coaches, lost by submission to Luis Hernandez. Strickland and fellow fighter Chris Curtis responded to Hernandez taunting Hunsinger’s corner after securing the victory. There is a video showing the former champion throwing punches at Hernandez after entering the cage.

Final Thoughts

It is expected that a fight for Strickland won’t be announced by the UFC until there is a resolution. His last bout was in February against Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title. It resulted in a unanimous decision loss. Strickland is a great fighter, and fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in the Octagon again. We just don’t know how long the wait will be. Fights headlining UFC 320 and 321 were announced earlier this week.
