Four fighters were transported to a local hospital following UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday night, promotion officials confirmed to MMA Mania.
Santiago Ponzinibbio, Ismael Bonfim, Tyrell Fortune and Octagon newcomer Damian Rzepecki all left Etihad Arena for precautionary CT scans after sustaining damage in their respective bouts at the Yas Island venue.
Ponzinibbio needed head and face scans after a knockout loss to welterweight prospect Sam Patterson. The 39-year-old Argentine has now dropped two straight and sits at 3-7 across his last 10 fights, with six of those defeats coming by finish. He turns 40 in two months.
Bonfim also required head and face imaging after a submission loss to Axel Sola. The lightweight has lost three consecutive fights since flattening Terrance McKinney in his promotional debut and now stands 2-4 inside the Octagon.
Fortune left with scans of his head, face and pelvis following a third-round stoppage loss to Rizvan Kuniev on the main card. The heavyweight did earn a $100,000 Fight of the Night bonus for his efforts, per MMA Mania. The defeat snapped a four-fight win streak and marked his first UFC loss after he had cracked the rankings with a win over Marcin Tybura.
Rzepecki, making his promotional debut, was sent for head and face scans after a unanimous decision loss to Magomed Zaynukov. The defeat was the first of the Polish fighter's 11-fight professional career.
Results of the scans have not been disclosed. UFC Abu Dhabi marked another violent night in the promotion's recent Middle East swing.
