Francis Ngannou returned to MMA on 16 May as one of the biggest attractions on MVP’s first major MMA card for Netflix, alongside Ronda Rousey.
His position on the show mattered. Ngannou had signed off from PFL after making just one MMA appearance in over four years, creating curiosity around his new MVP arrangement.
That interest only grew after the disclosed purses emerged. The numbers showed a huge gap between ‘The Predator’ and his opponent Philipe Lins, even before the former UFC champion’s knockout win.
According to MMA Junkie, Ngannou received a disclosed purse of US$ 1.5 million for his heavyweight fight against Lins, who was paid US$ 100k on the same card.
The fight itself reinforced the difference in billing. The former UFC champion knocked Lins out cold in the first round, delivering the kind of finish MVP likely wanted from its marquee heavyweight signing.
Lins’ purse was also striking in context. Among the final three fights on the Netflix card, the Brazilian’s US$ 100k was the lowest disclosed figure by a clear margin.
MMA Junkie reported that Rousey topped the disclosed salary list with US$ 2.2 million, while Gina Carano earned US$ 1.05 million for the headline comeback fight.
That meant three fighters crossed seven figures, with Rousey, Ngannou and Carano all receiving huge guaranteed sums from a promotion trying to announce itself in MMA.
Nate Diaz and Mike Perry also earned significant purses for their fight. Diaz received US$ 500k, while Perry was listed at US$ 400k before beating him by stoppage.
The figures do not include potential bonuses or extra revenue tied to Netflix and ticket sales. Still, they underline how heavily MVP leaned on proven names for its MMA launch.
