Frank Mir has opened up about the attribute Brock Lesnar had that really caused him problems in their first fight.

On February 2, 2008, at UFC 81, two heavyweight titans went head-to-head at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Mir had massive pressure on his shoulders as Lesnar was a former WWE superstar. However, it wasn’t just the weight of expectation that caused problems for the jiu-jitsu practitioner.

When the submission specialist entered the cage with his rival, he quickly realised the powerhouse was very much the real deal.

During an interview on The JAXXON Podcast, the icon said: “He’s strong, but speed-wise, that’s what f—— shocked me. I remember, though, in the fight that I kneebarred him, I went to armbar him and he pulled up and I rolled to one side and I came up like in halfguard to look for him and literally the f—– was gone.

“It’s just because he planted his chest on my shoulder and spun to the other side. I was like, ‘This f—– is fast.

“For a guy that size to move that quickly, it was his speed of movement, his explosiveness that really set him apart. Being big and strong [is great], but everybody at 280 pounds is big and strong.”
