‘Get off drugs’… Khamzat Chimaev hits back at Conor McGregor’s claim middleweight title is ‘his belt’

Khamzat Chimaev is up for a fight with Conor McGregor after the former two-weight world champion claimed middleweight is ‘his’ division.

The Irishman has been out of action for half a decade, and is plotting his return this summer at UFC 329 in Las Vegas. He has won gold at lightweight and featherweight, and is 2-1 in his brief outings at welterweight.

Now, he seems to have designs on a fourth division, which would be an incredible rarity in the UFC. And he would be willing to compete against the very best, including the winner of UFC 328’s main event between Chimaev and Sean Strickland.

Khamzat Chimaev reacts to Conor McGregor’s bizarre tweet

While previewing Saturday’s big fight, Conor McGregor claimed that the belt being fought for is already his. “Very excited for the Newark, New Jersey UFC card, with my 185lb UFC title on the line!” He wrote on X in a post that he quickly deleted. “TUNE IN ON @UFConParamount.”

This is despite the Irishman never fighting at 185lb, with Khamzat Chimaev telling Bloody Elbow laughing off the message when asked about it during media day in New Jersey. “His belt?” Chimaev scoffed. “Bro, he lost his belt ten years ago!

“So I don’t know. This guy should come off drugs and his Proper something [Proper Twelve, McGregor’s whiskey brand] that he is drinking all the time and get to work.

“Let’s fight, and I don’t care if it’s boxing. I told the Zuffa Boxing people everyone thinks I’m just a wrestler, but I don’t need to just use my boxing because I am a MMA fighter. If I go to boxing I’m going to show my boxing too.”
