It seems the hatchet was not buried at UFC 320.

October kicked off with a pay-per-view event at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, headlined by Alex Pereira’s shot at redemption against Magomed Ankalaev.

Less than seven months after being unseated by the Dagestani, Pereira knocked out Ankalaev at UFC 321 to exact his revenge and make a quick return to the light heavyweight throne.

More than just reinstating him as champion, the quick finish in ‘Sin City’ was satisfying for Pereira owing to the barrage of trash talk he had to endure from his opponent. And it wasn’t just Ankalaev himself getting in on the act.

Glover Teixeira slams Magomed Ankalaev’s coaches for ‘weird’ approach to UFC 320

In addition to fans suggesting Ankalaev’s manager was behind trash talk on social media that came from the Russian fighter’s account, other members of his team also got in on the act during fight week.

Most notably, Ankalaev’s main coach downplayed Pereira’s power as a threat during one episode of the UFC 320 Embedded series.

That left Pereira’s lead trainer, Glover Teixeira, less than pleased.

“To be honest, I’ve never had a fight with myself or with Alex where we’ve had the whole camp, the whole corner (getting involved),” Teixeira said on UFC Unfiltered.

“Alex and (Israel) Adesanya, you know, they go back and forth…but we don’t get involved. The corner doesn’t get involved.

“I am not here to talk s— about a guy because I am not going to step into the Octagon with him,” he added. “So you don’t talk to somebody knowing…he can’t hit me.

“They should leave this to the fighters only. … When the corner gets involved like that, it’s just like, ‘Man, what’s wrong with you guys?’ … It was just weird, the whole thing.”

Alex Pereira will likely have his eyes on Tom Aspinall vs Ciryl Gane at UFC 321

Immediately after his return to the top spot at 205 pounds, Pereira announced his intention to move to heavyweight.

While the Brazilian’s sights are on a super fight with Jon Jones for the time being, he is also widely expected to eventually pursue a historic third divisional title.

The undisputed heavyweight gold is currently held by Tom Aspinall, who will defend it for the first time in Saturday’s UFC 321 main event.

After being elevated from his interim status following Jones’ retirement, Aspinall will be challenged by Ciryl Gane in Abu Dhabi.
