UFC 324 will feature a bout between ex-flyweight champion Alexa Grasso and former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas.
The fight will be part of the UFC’s first card under their new Paramount+ deal, which is headlined by Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett. Grasso is determined to get back to winning ways after losing her last two fights. She lost her flyweight belt to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 306 in September 2024. That was followed up by a loss to Natalia Silva in her last fight at UFC 315 in May.
Grasso’s last win came all the way back against Valentina when she beat her at UFC 285 in March 2023, which secured her the flyweight belt. Meanwhile, Namajunas is in impressive form. She has three wins from her last four fights. Her only defeat during that period came against Erin Blanchfield in November 2024. However, she bounced back from that loss by defeating Miranda Maverick in her last fight in June.
Grasso excels in the mid-to-close range, often ending with a powerful body shot or a swift left hook. She will need to be aggressive with her forward pressure, cutting off Namajunas’s escape angles to keep the fight from becoming a sparring match at distance. Grasso’s most potent weapon in this weight class is the rear-naked choke, which she used to upset Shevchenko. If Namajunas attempts a takedown (a growing part of her game at flyweight), Grasso will use her grappling defensively. More proactively, if she lands a powerful combination, she will look to follow up with a snap-down or throw Namajunas to the ground.
Namajunas will want to keep the fight at the end of her punches and kicks, using her superior range to attack Grasso as she enters. Her main objective is to keep Grasso guessing and prevent her from settling into rhythm, similar to how Natalia Silva recently defeated Grasso. Against Grasso, she may choose to shoot for takedowns, not necessarily to hold top position, but to break Grasso’s striking rhythm and steal rounds.
