It's been nearly a year since we last saw Holly Holm, one of the most recognizable names in women's MMA, make the walk to the cage. Her most recent appearance ended in defeat, but in true fighter fashion, she's far from done. Now, in 2025, the combat sports veteran is gearing up for a comeback. Known not just for her MMA résumé but also for her boxing accolades, she remains a household name. The latest news confirms it: she's ready to step back into action—this time under a brand-new banner.

According to the Albuquerque Journal , Holly Holm—affectionately dubbed "The Preacher’s Daughter"—is officially set to face seasoned veteran Julia Budd at the debut event for the Global Fight League (GFL), scheduled for May 24 in Los Angeles. Budd, a staple of the women's featherweight scene, has competed across Strikeforce, Invicta FC, and Bellator. She's shared the cage with the likes of Cris Cyborg and Larissa Pacheco, and in her last outing at PFL 5 in June 2023, she secured a decision win over Martina Jindrová, breaking a three-fight losing streak.

Holm won't be alone in this GFL debut. The card also features appearances from former UFC stars like Anthony Pettis and Chad Mendes, adding even more intrigue to the promotion's high-profile launch. In January 2025, Holm was released from the UFC at her own request. Despite having two fights remaining on her contract, she sought the release to explore new opportunities in her combat sports career. All eyes are now on Los Angeles as one of MMA's most enduring athletes returns.
