Holly Holm wants to rematch Ronda Rousey if the fighter is offered to her.

Despite the potential for an MMA rematch, Holm is focused on boxing. She will face Stephanie Han for the WBA Lightweight Title on January 3, 2026. A win would add to her previous belts in boxing, where she was the WBA and WBC Welterweight champ. However, her win over Rousey is what she is still known for. Holm stopped Rousey at UFC 193 in 2015 to become the new bantamweight champ. Rousey was never the same, as she retired after her next fight which was a loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. Meanwhile, Holm lost her belt immediately to Miesha Tate.

Yet there is speculation about a Rousey return. Recent reports suggested Katie Taylor is in talks to face Rousey in a crossover boxing mega-fight for summer 2026, with Netflix reportedly showing interest. Rousey has also been sharing her training footage, hinting at a return in some capacity. Holm is also with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which has the biggest roster of female fighters, as Holm would be glad to run things back.

“I would have definitely rematched her if I knew she was actually going to come back…I’ve always been open to a rematch with Ronda, I just don’t know if she ever wanted to have one. But I’ve always been open for a rematch with Ronda, and the offer still stands. I’m still here,” Holm said

Is It Needed?

While Holm has remained active and is currently preparing for a WBA Lightweight Title fight, Rousey has not competed in a real fight since 2016. In a boxing ring, the disparity would be even more pronounced. Holm is an International Boxing Hall of Famer; Rousey’s striking was notoriously her “Achilles’ heel.” Critics argue that putting Rousey in a boxing match against Holm in 2026 would be a mismatch.

In her 2024 autobiography, Our Fight, Rousey revealed she struggled with a history of concussions and neurological concerns even before she reached the UFC. At 38 years old, the idea of her returning to take “head-trauma-only” shots in a boxing ring could harm her long-term health.

Women’s boxing is currently in a “Golden Era” with stars like Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, and Lauren Price. Bringing back a rivalry from 2015 takes the spotlight away from the active champions who are currently pushing the sport.
