Months after their UFC heavyweight title fight ended in controversy, Ciryl Gane has opened up about his reaction to the eye poke incident involving Tom Aspinall. The UFC 321 main event in Abu Dhabi was ruled a no-contest. This was after Aspinall suffered a serious eye injury and was unable to continue following an accidental foul from Gane.

Speaking recently about the moment, Gane admitted he was initially frustrated when Aspinall chose not to continue the fight. “At the moment, I was a little frustrated because I thought it was possible to continue the fight,” Gane said.

However, the French heavyweight also made it clear that he does not blame Aspinall for the stoppage. “We’re not in Tom Aspinall’s eyes, so we can’t judge that,” he added.

The incident sparked major debate in the MMA community. Especially after Aspinall later revealed the injury caused lingering vision problems and eventually required surgery. Despite the backlash and online criticism, Gane has consistently maintained that the eye poke was accidental and not intentional.

How Tom Aspinall Reacted to Ciryl Gane

Weeks after the bout was declared a no-contest, Ciryl Gane dropped a training update and boldly called out Aspinall. The Frenchman shared it on social media with a training update, which later turned into a heated argument. Eager to settle the score once and for all, Ciryl Gane stated, “Still no date or opponent yet… but we keep grinding and training hard before the holidays.”

Tom Aspinall revealed that he still had not received medical clearance and would need surgery for the eye injury. The British heavyweight accused Ciryl Gane of cheating and voiced his frustration over how the fight unfolded.

To this, frustrated Aspinall, who was still recovering from the eye injury, commented, “No s--- there’s not a date yet. I’m not medically cleared to fight, and about to have surgery thanks to your disgusting fingernails. I’ll be back to smash your face in. Soon, you cheat.”

While it appears that the duo will meet again inside the UFC, there still isn’t any confirmed date for the bout. For now, fans will have to wait and see how things turn out.
