Israel Adesanya’s decision to carry on fighting isn’t being supported by the large majority of the MMA world.

This past Saturday, the premier promotion returned to Washington for UFC Seattle, headlined by a middleweight clash between Israel Adesanya and Joe Pyfer.

Despite an impressive first round, Adesanya was handed his fourth loss in a row when Pyfer took him down to the ground and rained down ground-and-pound from his back in the second round.

Although he suffered his fifth loss in six fights and the fact he is now 36 years old, Adesanya made it clear after the fight that he has no plans to retire, and will continue competing in the UFC.

Michael Bisping wishes Adesanya called it a day at UFC Seattle

Unfortunately over the years, fans have seen fighters like BJ Penn, Anderson Silva and many others somewhat tarnish their legacy by fighting for longer than they should.

And UFC legend Michael Bisping is concerned by ‘The Last Stylebender’s’ decision to continue fighting in the sport.

“I wish, in a way, that Israel would’ve retired on Saturday night,” Bisping said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“But he didn’t… He said he’s coming back again and again and again, and you know what, fair play to the guy. He is taking damage, that’s a fact, he got knocked out against (Nassourdine) Imavov, he took some heavy shots against Joe Pyfer and back in the day, that wouldn’t have happened.

“He’s getting older and he’s slowing down but of course as fighters, sometimes we need protecting from ourselves, I’m not saying I disagree with Israel Adesanya for not retiring, I would’ve liked to have seen it because I think he’s given this sport enough.”

Ahead of his fight in Seattle, Adesanya pointed towards the aforementioned career of Anderson Silva, claiming that fans don’t remember his final run and instead remember his incredible moments.

However, that is not the case, as the new age of fans likely won’t remember Silva’s prime and will only remember his final few fights in the UFC.

“There are parallels between Israel Adesanya’s career and what happened with Anderson Silva as well. Remember Silva, the greatest middleweight of all time… Anderson had a fall from grace and by the end it was like six (losses) in a row, it’d be sad to see that happen to Israel Adesanya.”
