Ian Machado Garry gets outwrestled by featherweight in new footage leaked by Islam Makhachev’s manager

Islam Makhachev’s manager is already attempting to get into Ian Machado Garry’s head before their potential title clash.

For several months now, fans have been awaiting news of Islam Makhachev‘s next fight as the Russian champion has been MIA since November last year.

There were talks of a potential super fight between Makhachev and Ilia Topuria on the UFC White House event but talks fell apart at the final hour.

That left the door open for welterweight number one contender Ian Machado Garry who has been calling for the fight for several months now.

Makhachev’s manager shares footage of Machado Garry being dominated in training

This past April, the Irishman teased that he has finally received the call from the UFC to offer him the fight against the welterweight champion.

That was then followed by Makhachev confirming that he has ‘verbally agreed’ to his first welterweight title defense, with Dana White targeting the fight to take place in August.

It seems as though Makhachev and Machado Garry have both begun their training camps for what promises to be a big fight.

And with that, the mental warfare has already begun, but not between either of the fighters. Makhachev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has shared a video on social media of ‘The Future’ getting outwrestled in training by his featherweight teammate.

In the 28 second video, the Irishman is taken down by a double leg take down before being put back on the mat by a subsequent single leg take down. The video later shows Machado Garry being put in a standing head and arm choke.

His training partner is believed to be PFL featherweight, Alexei Pergande, who is currently undefeated at 8-0 having only made his professional MMA debut in 2022.

Although Pergande doesn’t have a huge background in wrestling, he has been competing in the sport since he was 9-years-old.

The 28-year-old Irishman has faced questions regarding his grappling throughout the early stages of his UFC career, which will come into question against Makhachev.

In 11 UFC outings, Machado Garry has been taken down six times, twice by Shavkat Rakhmonov, who controlled him on the ground for over 11 minutes of their five round fight.
